Pursuit of Happiness!!!
I was not sure what success really is!! So, when I was in my Boards, I believed that securing good markswill make me successful, then when I was in my 12thBoards, I believedthat emerging as a high school topper would make me successful, then further I believed thatsecuring admission in one of the best colleges of Delhi would, qualifying as a Company Secretary, Chartered Accountant, Insolvency Resolution Professional, Registered Valuer would and the list goes on!! But as and whenlife happened, I realized that clearing exams, hoarding degrees does not make one successful!Securing a top rankdoes not make one successful!! Speaking at various seminars/webinars does not make one successful!! So, what exactly was the true meaning of success?? This question pondered me a lot!!
However, life has its own way of answering our questions. I found an answer to the same while living my life. As such my journey!! A usual journey of any girl in India, only exception was, that I was enthusiastic about my dreams! I was adamant to pursue what I wanted to!Being born after three brothers, my dadi (Granny)exclaimed“Hey bhagwan!!ladki huihai !!”(“Oh God! Girl child!”). However, I was fortunate enough to be blessed with parents who strongly believed in gender equality and women empowerment. As a result, I studied in the best schools and colleges. And definitely, it has lot of role to play in my career. I cleared CS with B’com (H) and then since other friends were pursuing CA,even I decided to pursue the same. My father had always been very keen on studies. No doubt, he is a staunch believer of girl education.
I shifted to Mumbai in 2008. I still remember, when I stepped in Mumbai, it was the month of August, the monsoons had begun. Imagine a Delhi girl in Mumbai, I was mesmerized by the sea, waves and the vastness. During that time my husband – CA. Vinay Bhushan, was working for GT.He had to look after the Mumbai office, so he moved to Mumbai and since I was working with Deloitte in Delhi, so I moved with him to Deloitte’s Mumbai Office. Being a young professional in Mumbai was not an easy task. However, we were so much supported by our seniorsin profession CA. B.M. Agarwal Sir and CA. Sunil Kumar Patodia sir. They paved us the way, supported us in our professional work and motivated us to take active part in various events organized by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Trust me, this not only helped us in increasing our confidence but also connected us with the city and its people more while being more productive. As it is rightly said, a good mentor is half success achieved.
As I said earlier, finding the correct path is very important. A point where you can combine what you are passionate about with what earns you good money.Baba Ranchoddasssahiboltehain, “Beta, success kepeeche mat bhaago, kabilbano, kabil, kamyabitohjhakmaarkepeecheaaegi.” and this has been my success mantra! I had the privilege to work in various multinational companies from the very beginning of my career. I gained huge experience of work from various positions, from top to bottom, from intricate tax structuring to global mergers etc. Yet, my heart was always in something which would be scalable and which would generate employment and the most important, which gives me maximum satisfaction and also found that there was a huge gap in the services, pricing and expectations from the client. So, I joined my husband in “Taxpert Professionals”. Taxpert Professionals now serves/have served more than 100 multinational clientsincluding fortune 500 companies in various ways adding value with quality and commitment.
Also, over a period of time I gained expertise in valuations and NBFC operations along with my rock solid team. So, we started a new venture called – “Taxpert Professionals Global solutions”and“Taxpert NBFC solutions”. I am glad to say that, myboth ventures have created a niche for themselves and have been doing extremely well. And Yes!! Here lies the true happiness and success!! In conceptualizing something, giving it anappropriate shape and adding value.
Adding value and being ethical is core to my heart. I believe, if I am not adding value then the position which I holdis not justified. That goes for all the positions which I occupy/have occupied till date, be it the Co-chairperson of Business Committee of Indian Merchant Chamber – LW, Member of Indo German chamber of trade and commerce or various committee of ICAI or ICSI or various Board positions as independent Director. Being ethical, being responsible and adding value is must.
Today, I am mother of two beautiful kids. One is 15 and one is 7-year-old. To be honest, one thing I am most proud of is being mother. In fact, my first book was the outcome of my maternity leave, which I utilized for sharing knowledge and writing. I published my first book in 2013 &from then till now 6 other books were published by me, two of which them are best sellers. I would like to share there’s is one currently in progress…and that is with Taxmann!!.
To conclude, I have realized that, Success is a place where the mind, soul and heart are together. And that place can be different for different people. Success is when one finds the true happiness in what one does, in what one is passionate for. I found my happiness not in sophistication but in simplicity, I found my happiness not in too much but in Quality. I found my happiness with Taxpert Professionals, with Taxpert Global solutions and Taxpert NBFC Solutions. Something, that adds value to the companies and something where I find my mind, soul and heart to be at same place, beside obviously being with my kids.
It has been amazing to move adventures bumping path, a stable road and I hope to take off to next level to serve at best of my qualities tomy clients, my alma maters and my country in the whatever it is possible to the best of my capacities.
My advice to young fellow members/ Young Cas/aspirants:
- The eco system has changed. Think different. Think new. Make new ventures. Dare to dream and let those dream come true for you. Gone are the days when you use to be successful at the age of 55 and 60 now is the age of generation expresso. Have an idea, give it all your energy, wisdom and passion. Make it happen.
- Be ethical. It pays. Always. If not in short run, but in long run it definitely does. The role of Chartered Accountants has changed in the society. Don’t be just to cost centre. Add value, create value and be indispensable where ever you work.
- Enjoy the journey. Success is the not in reaching the destination but it is the path to destination which needs to be enjoyed as well. Be happy. We are so much engrossed in achieving success that we stop enjoying the process. Make happiness a habit.
Go and Get it. It belongs to you !!
