As a Women we have different Role to play but first and Foremost we should have ME time
Story of a Mother,Professional and a Bike Rider – CS Shailja Sharma
Shailja Sharma: Company Secretary, Cost Accountant, Bachelor of Laws and a Practicing
Company Secretary since June 2008.
But at first I am mother of 2 pre teens and my boys are my top priority but at the same time I
never compromised with my career or my ambitions as I always believe that A happy woman
can only raise a happy child. So just to make myself happier I chose something which was
always an attraction for me although never thought to do it.
But then Dreams were transformed into thoughts and thoughts resulted into Action
And the story of my Bullet starts now…
‘Madam Ji Nai kar Paengi
Sir, Madam Nai Kar Paengi’
(Madam won’t be able to do, Sir, Madam cannot do)
I Wonder how people poke their nose into others business and how we easily get affected by
their comments which are just put straight without any thoughtful process.
I heard these words from our car cleaner when first time I tried to start Royal Enfield.
He was standing just behind me and had already announced my failure even without my trial.
I too got nervous although I was able to start Bike and also took 2 rounds with support of my
husband but his words were haunting me day and night.
Finally after one and half year, I decided to ride Royal Enfield and this time I did not care
anyone’s opinion.
JAB KUCH PAHLI BAAR KARTE HAIN
TO KYO LAGTA HAI KI WO BAAR BAAR KARE
Yes something like this happened with me when first time I rode RE.
I approached Minakshi who is associated with Bikerni Bengaluru group. A lady with aura of
friendliness. Seeing her only my fear of holding bullet got vanished. RE Classic 350 weighs 192
Kg and I am 61 Kg. that means more than 3 times of my weight.
We girls are brought up in delicate manner and we are so much conditioned to such delicacies
that we even forget our inner strength. I convinced myself that girls even lift heavy weights and
win gold medals at international level so why can’t I even ride bike 3 times heavier than me and
I have to simply ride it and not lift it.
So girls my objective to write my thoughts is to just inspire all of you to ride heavy bikes. We are
not meant for scooty and bounce. A girl on bike is sexier than anyone and the confidence we
feel while riding it can’t be explained in words.
Minakshi taught me first how to adjust my body as per bike then slowly asked me to ride on first
gear and then I was not ready to stop. I kept my exercises continue everyday what she told me
to do and I used to do in basement of our condo. All guards were on high alert seeing a lady
learning bike but trust me no one was ever hurt cause of my passion.
After 20 days of my first lesson, Minakshi asked me for one last hammer to the nail and we went
on 64 km traffic ride and it was simply amazing. I still remember my first main road, my first over
bridge, my first red light, first truck passing by. Everything is so fresh still in my mind. But I could
do all this with full confidence as I had practiced every single day since my first training. Practice
makes a person perfect and I constantly follow it whether its profession or Passion.
I am thrilled to tell you the biggest achievement till date is my participation in 100 Women Bikers
Parade on 71 st Republic Day i.e. 26 th January 2020.
Let me also tell you all comments and pieces of advice and experience I felt and received in
Bike adventure:
1. Bhari bahut hai ye bike, koi halki bike chala lo (its too heavy bike: learn some lighter
bike)
2. Kya karna ise chala ke is umar mein (what you have to achieve riding it at this age)
3. In RTO: people were smiling and pointing out: ‘oh she is the girl here to get license for
Bullet’
4. Boys cross so close to our bike, may be out of curiosity but this is quite dangerous as we
literally get shocked. So boys please stop wondering when u see a girl on bike rather
smile.
Friends I came to know that out of 85 students of Minakshi: 60 were married girls only so
I bet this is the best way to deal mid life crisis and the kick you will get after it will keep
you high all of your life time.
Girls learn it and ride with full safety and have FUN!!!
Love you.
